About Us

Who We Are

Welcome to the Climate Change and Education Platform, a global knowledge hub at the intersection of climate change and education, supported by the Green Climate Fund, the Global Partnership for Education and Save the Children.

Discover resources to help integrate climate change and education, including to advance climate resilient education systems, improve adaptive capacities and climate literacy, and improved risk planning for education. Find the latest research, evidence and best practice, including in school construction and feeding programs, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and disaster risk reduction (DRR).

Despite the scale of climate risk, education remains under-prioritised in climate policy and finance. Of the 2.5 billion children worldwide1 billion live in extremely high-climate risk countries, and  in 2024 climate shocks disrupted schooling for an estimated 242 million children.  Cyclones alone cause around US$4 billion in annual losses to the education sector, yet only 1.5% of global climate finance reached the education sector in 2021.

These impacts are not inevitable; they are largely predictable and preventable.

By channelling climate finance into retrofitting and resilience-building, education systems can be protected from the negative impacts of climate change. Pre-emptive action is not only more cost-effective than responding to crisis or rebuilding post disasters, it also ensures continuity of learning and safeguards the education and futures of millions of children.

Education belongs in climate action. Every climate negotiator, scientist, policymaker, and innovator is where they are today thanks to education. Without foundational literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking, future generations will struggle to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to adapt to climate change, and live in a climate-altered reality.

Our aim:

  • Strengthen collaboration between climate change and education actors;
  • Share evidence and learning from different countries on climate change and education action;
  • Contribute to more climate resilient education systems.

This platform will highlight work from major new initiatives funded by the world’s largest education and climate change donors – the Global Partnership for Education and the Green Climate Fund. It will continue to be updated with resources and stories from these and other projects across the world.
